I came into the grad program thinking that I was more suited to, you know, working in an office and I didn't really know what I wanted to do. The grad program for me, what enticed me to do it was the rotations. So I started off in economic regulation and then I went to growth and development and then from there, partnerships and then engagement as well. When I was rotating through engagement, I got to go out on site, go to all the farmers' markets, I got to lead a lot of that work and getting to go out in the community and allow them to have a voice in decision making was really good.
I've had the opportunity to support the delivery of multiple infrastructure projects. That was pretty awesome being able to attend site, witness I guess the day-to-day construction. Each team that you move into is really willing to support your personal and professional development. People are really happy to talk about their projects and have me involved. You can see its value in the exposure you get throughout the organisation and all the networking you're able to do. We get heaps of opportunity to go out to site during the grad program. So as an engineer, pretty much all the rotations you'll be in will have some aspect of site visits. It's a good mix of, you know, being in the Footscray or Sunbury offices, working with people around the organisation, or out on site.
The person at the start of the program and the person now - I think everyone around me knows it's not the same. I got to explore different parts of my personality, grow my confidence and eventually realised that I kind of like being out on site a lot more than I like being, you know, at an office. The grad program provided me ample opportunity to explore other areas of interest and really find I guess some solid grounding in the position that I have now. If you had the opportunity, I'd definitely say apply and just kind of see where it takes you. Apply even if you may not think you're interested in the water industry, because there's a really large and diverse amount of work that goes on. You don't have to know anything about water to apply, I didn't. Just go for it.
