If you're a property owner and have renters moving in, you need to let us know.
Please note, it's taking us longer than usual to process these requests.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience. We're doing all we can to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Under the Water Act 1989, landlords, real estate agents and other authorised agents must notify us when tenants are moving in.
You need to let us know up to 30 days before your renters move in, and not less than two days before their move-in date.
We will do a meter read before the renters move in. This is to make sure they are not charged for any water used before they occupy the property.
Meters are read Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.
Some properties have their own meter that measures water use at that property only. In this case, the renter must pay for the water they use, as well as the sewage disposal charge.
the meter only measures water usage for that specific property, and
the meter has been installed or approved by GWW.
Shared meters
Some properties have meters that are shared by more than property. They don’t measure water use in separate properties. In this case, the owner pays for water usage and the sewage disposal charge.
What charges will you pay?
As the property owner, you will receive a bill for your property.
You must pay for:
service and network charges
other charges that may apply, such as the waterways and drainage charge and the parks charge
special meter reads
water usage and sewage disposal charges if the property does not have a separate meter.
What charges will your renters pay?
Renters will pay for their water usage and sewage disposal charges only if the property has a separate meter.
If they have a concession card, they may be eligible for a concession on their water bill. You can’t apply on behalf of your renters, they need to do this themselves.
