Young artists celebrate water heroes in National Water Week poster competition
20 October 2025
Students from across Melbourne’s west have been recognised in this year’s National Water Week poster competition, sharing powerful messages about why every drop of water counts.
More than forty schools, kindergartens and early learning centres across GWW's service area entered this year's competition – almost doubling last year’s entries – with students creating posters exploring the theme Water Heroes: Save Every Drop.
GWW's General Manager for Strategy and Partnerships, Kessia Thomson said the creativity on display was both inspiring and thought-provoking. "Each poster this year creatively captured the theme Water Heroes: Save Every Drop and remind us of the vital part we all play in protecting our most precious resource," she said.
"Year after year, we’re amazed by the imagination and innovation students bring, especially in finding new ways to save and protect our water." Students from Amiga Montessori in Point Cook and Arnold’s Creek Kindergartens went on to win two of the five state level categories.
This year’s school prize went to Al Iman College in Melton, who won $500 towards a sustainable project. This prize was sponsored by Southern Rural Water.
"Well done to every person who took part, and our deserving winners. These young people understand what sustainability looks like in action and they’re showing us how it’s done."
The competition was open to students from early learning and kindergarten through to Year 6, with individual prizes valued up to $100 across five categories and a $500 school prize.

The Australian Water Association hosts National Water Week which runs from 20-26 October this year. The aim is to promote the value of water across Australia, inspiring individuals, education providers, communities and organisations to work together to raise community awareness and understanding of water-related issues.
