Bullengarook CFA, in partnership with Bullengarook Landcare, will deliver a community recovery-focused program that integrates fire preparedness, cultural land management, and water efficiency practices.
Located within a designated high fire risk (Red) area, Bullengarook faces ongoing challenges associated with bushfire, climate variability, and sustainable land and water management. This program responds to recent fire activity and the need for practical, locally relevant knowledge to support recovery and future resilience.
The program will feature an Aboriginal-led cultural burning session delivered by Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Dave Wandin, a respected leader in the revival of traditional cultural burning practices at Coranderrk Station in Victoria. After more than 160 years, these practices have been reintroduced through cool, controlled burns that regenerate seed banks, restore ecosystems, and reduce fuel loads—helping prevent more intense fires.
Delivered over two days, the program includes a community information session and a live cultural burn demonstration supported by CFA and Landcare, alongside a Water Wise Living component.
