The Lango Stage is the final phase of Footscray Community Arts' (FCA) precinct development along the Maribyrnong River. Lango, meaning "on the river edge" in Woi-Wurrung, is a name gifted by Aunty Annette, honouring cultural revitalisation and deep connection to Country.
Construction of the new outdoor performance space is already underway, backed by Victorian State Government investment. This grant funds the cultural and ecological integration that completes the precinct's First Nations vision, and is not yet funded.
The project delivers four outcomes:
A smoking/fire bowl commissioned from Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and Wiradjuri artist Moorina Bonini, fabricated with Waterside Metal Art Studio in Maribyrnong, creating a permanent cultural gathering space for ceremony, storytelling and connection to Country.
Kulin Nation water patterns integrated into outdoor furniture and site elements through burning and etching techniques.
The Tarnuk-ut Baany intergenerational cultural development program, expanded to include structured waterways knowledge and custodianship of the Maribyrnong River.
First Nations-led planting of native species including Lomandra to support rain gardens, water quality improvement and habitat restoration along the Maribyrnong River corridor.
