Our customers’ drinking water comes from three major supply systems:
Bulk treated drinking water from Melbourne Water
Bulk untreated water from Southern Rural Water, which we treat at our filtration plants (Rosslynne Reservoir, Merrimu Reservoir, Pykes Creek Reservoir)
Water from our local reservoirs and bores, also treated at our filtration plants (Woodend, Lancefield and Romsey System).
Most of our drinking water supply comes from Melbourne Water, however local storages and groundwater help us meet demand for our regional customers. A mix of water sources helps when rainfall is low, and less water is reaching our storages.
The chart above shows approximately how much water we source and treat locally, including water from Southern Rural Water, and how much we get from the Melbourne Water supply. This can vary from year to year.
Of this total, 57% is residential, 29% non-residential, and 14% is non-revenue water/other uses.
