Woodend Golf Club is planning to undertake some environmental works at the Woodend Golf Course, in particular removing noxious weeds and rehabilitating areas with native plants to provide habitat for local native species. This project if part of our Environmental Management Plan (EMP) which helps guide how we look after the course on behalf of the local community.
The club has cleared an old quarry area on the course which was infested with blackberries and other weeds. As part of this, a pond has been uncovered and we now want to restore this pond as native habitat and it an attractive feature.
The pond has a dramatic back drop in the old quarry and now accessible following the initial clearing of the area. Some more blackberry and weeds needs to removed as well as some minor earthworks to shape the edges of the pond, level the existing grassed areas with topsoil and prepare the area for extensive native plantings.
These minor works will make the area an attractive feature and help the club achieve the objectives of our EMP to remove noxious weeds from the course and restore native habitat.
