From next week, we're planning to make a change to the way drinking water is treated for the Romsey township.
This change is an important step towards completing the Romsey Water Filtration Plant upgrade. Due to be completed next year, the new facility will increase treatment capacity to the growing community.
If you live or work in Romsey, you might notice the taste or smell of chlorine in the drinking water over the next few weeks. We expect this to settle as the new treatment method takes effect.
Your water will remain safe to drink and use within the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
What's changing
The change involves switching from chloramination to chlorination. Chlorination is a safe treatment method used widely across the state and in most parts of our service area.
When we make the change, we will flush the water mains which can stir up natural sediment in the pipes and cause discoloured water. If you experience this, we recommend running an outdoor tap at the front of your property for a few minutes until the water clears, then do the same at the back of your property.
Keeping our customers informed
We're notifying customers about the change through letters, local community pop-ups and information on our website, so they know what to expect.
Customers and community members who have questions or want to know more, can come and chat with a water quality expert at one of the following pop-ups:
At Romsey IGA on:
Thursday 5 November, 9am - 1pm
Wednesday 11 November, 2pm - 6pm
Thursday 19 November, 9am - 1pm
At Romsey Neighbourhood House on:
Saturday 7 November, 10am - 2pm
