Greater Western Water encourages customers to be fire ready
5 November 2026
Greater Western Water (GWW) is encouraging customers to be aware of the impact bushfires can have on water services, including disruptions to water supply, changes to water pressure and impacts to water quality.
Despite recent rain, Victoria is expected to experience warmer and drier conditions heading into summer. Understanding how water services may be affected during a bushfire can help customers make informed decisions and plan ahead.
GWW's service area covers bushfire-prone areas including Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Hume, Macedon Ranges, Melton, Moorabool and Wyndham.
GWW's General Manager, Service Delivery, Jodie Hallam said the organisation was taking steps to prepare its network for the fire season. However, water supply, water pressure and water quality cannot always be guaranteed during a bushfire.
"Heat and fire can cause damage to our pipes, while high demand from firefighters and residents can put additional pressure on our network," she said.
"This can mean customers experience low water pressure, loss of water supply or changes to water quality.
"That's why it's important for customers to take steps now to prepare and have alternative water supplies available."
GWW is encouraging customers to:
Not rely on mains water during a bushfire and keep extra drinking water on hand for all household members and pets.
Keep fire hydrants clear of any grass, vegetation or other obstructions so firefighters can locate and access them easily.
Stay informed by monitoring GWW's website and social media for updates.
