Staying safe on social media

We're encouraging our customers to stay safe online and only interact with official Greater Western Water social media accounts.

We're aware of a rise in fake Facebook pages and groups pretending to be Greater Western Water. These pages may offer customer service support and encourage customers to share personal information or account details.

We're working to get these pages taken down, including reporting them to Meta and Scamwatch. However, it can take some time for fraudulent accounts to be removed.

How to stay safe when interacting with us on social media

Always check you're interacting with Greater Western Water's official channels before sharing any personal information. Our official social media accounts are:

• Facebook - Greater Western Water
• Instagram - Greaterwesternwater
• X - Greater Western Water (@GwwVic)
• LinkedIn - Greater Western Water
• YouTube - Greater Western Water

We do not operate or manage any Facebook groups. Don't interact with any Facebook groups claiming to be managed by Greater Western Water.

If you contact us via social media for account support, we will never:

• ask for your banking or credit card details
• ask for your passwords, PINs or one-time verification codes
• send payment links via social media
• call customers on Facebook messenger
• ask you to make a payment through Messenger
• ask you to communicate through WhatsApp
• threaten to disconnect your water service.

If you think you've interacted with a fake profile

If you believe you've shared personal information with a fake account, we recommend:

• changing any passwords or login details you may have shared
• contacting your bank immediately if you've provided banking or credit card details
• reporting the profile to Facebook and Scamwatch
• if you're unsure if a message claiming to be from GWW is genuine, stop engaging and contact us directly on 13 44 99.
