Water supply change – Gisborne, Riddells Creek, Macedon, Mount Macedon and Woodend
21 October 2025
Over the next few days, we’ll be switching the water supply in Gisborne, Gisborne South, New Gisborne, Macedon, Mt Macedon and Riddells Creek from the Melbourne system back to Rosslynne Reservoir.
This follows the completion of our planned maintenance at the Rosslynne Water Filtration Plant, which began in June. The water grid gives us the flexibility to draw from different sources to supply our customers. By switching sources throughout the year, we're able to maintain reliable water services during periods of high demand or maintenance.
Customers may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their drinking water following this supply change. This is due to the different treatment processes used in each supply and is nothing to be concerned about – your water remains safe to drink and meets all drinking water standards.
Much of Victoria, including the Macedon Ranges, has been very dry since winter 2023.
Even when rainfall boosts our water storages, high demand can cause them to drop quickly once dry weather returns. Unexpected events such as bushfires or damage to the water network can also put a strain on our supplies.
With summer on the way, it’s important to use water wisely to help protect our storages.
Update: 23 June 2025
On Monday 23 June, we’re switching the water source for Gisborne, Gisborne South, New Gisborne, Macedon, Mt Macedon, Riddells Creek and Woodend from Rosslynne Reservoir to Melbourne’s supply system.
We’re making this change so we can carry out planned maintenance at the Rosslynne Water Filtration Plant. This work is scheduled to take several months and we expect to switch back to local supply by early November.
We use a range of water sources across our network to meet the needs of our growing region. This ensures a reliable water supply during maintenance or when demand is high.
Customers in these areas may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their tap water during the switch.
